Ganesha is known by numerous names like Ganpati, Vinayaka, Vighnaharta, etc. He is one of the God in Hinduism. He is most worshiped deities in the Hindu. He is worshiped before other gods because he is known as Vighanharta. People start any auspicious work after worshiping him as it is believed that lord Ganesha helps in overcoming the difficulties and make any work or occasion successful.

The name Ganesha is a Sanskrit compound, joining the words gana, meaning a group, multitude, or categorical system and isha, meaning lord or master. Ganesha is often identified as an elephant head, there is a story behind elephant head of lord Ganesha. This story is of Ganesha's birth time, in this story Maa Parvati makes lord Ganesha out of cloth ,as it was lord Shiva's habbit to disturb Maa Parvati she wanted to stop lord Shiva from entering. So as she bathes, she kneads dirt which she rubs off her body into the shape of a child.When lord shiva tries to enter, Ganesha stops him and this restriction of lord Ganesha made him angry. Shiva then chops off Ganesha's head. As soon as Maa Parvati enters, she asks Shiva to bring her son back to life, then shiva cuts and put head of an elephant on Ganesha head to give him life. It is beleived that Ganesha is sole child of parvati,but hindu worships him as child of lord Shiva and parvati both. Ganesha is also brother to Kartikey, who is another child of lord Shiva and Parvati.

Ganesha's appearance tells alot about him. He is known as Ekdanta, because of his single whole tusk, and other one is broken. In some of the images of Ganesha depicts him holding his broken tusk. According to puranas, this feature of Ganesha depicts the incarnation of Ganesha Ekadanta.

Lord Ganesha is often pictured as someone who has pot belly, which also is an image of his other incarnation Lambodara. It is believed that name Lambodara is given to Ganesha because he has whole past, present and future present in his belly. Ganesha is described as red in color. Ganesha is considered as lord of buddhi, learning and knowledge. He is associated with Mercury Graha as it is related to mind. Ganesha is worshiped on many religious and occasions, especially at the beginning of something new such as buying a vehicle or starting a business or any auspicious occasion as marriage or birth of a child. Being the most worshiped god in India, you can see idols of lord Ganesha in every household. Lord Ganesha is worshiped by every cast and religion in country. Modak and laddos are favorite sweets of Ganpati and offered to Ganesha to impress him. He is often worshipped on Wednesday and being red in color, He is often worshipped by red sandalwood paste or red flowers. Festivals associated  with lord Ganesha are Ganesha chaturthi, which is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in India, it is best celebrated in Mumbai, Pune and all parts of Maharashtra or around all over India. Ganesha is often worshipped for 10 days and then immersed in a nearby river or sea. on 10th day people carries Ganesha in public procession with chanting and music and offers him modak. Some famous temples of lord Ganesha are Siddhivinayak Temple, Dagdusheth Ganpati, Kanipakam Vinayaka, Dodda Ganpathi, Shree Maha Ganapathi, Karpaka Vinayakar, Ganesha Temple, Ucchi Pillayar koil, Ashtavinayak-The Eight Ganesha Temples, Gokarna MahaGanapathy Temple, Chintaman Ganesh Temple, Trinetra Ganesh Temple, Manakula Vinayagar Temple, Madhur Mahaganapathi Temple, Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple.
