Saraswati Seated on Lotus is the goddess of learning, wisdom, music and aesthetics. She is the mother of supreme knowledge whose rays dispel the darkness of ignorance; symbolizes creative power of Brahma, the creator of universe. She is known by various names, Bharati (eloquence), Shatarupa (existence), Vedamata (mother of Vedas), Brahmi (consort of Brahma) etc. Her sacred vehicle is Swan and always shown playing a musical instrument, veena, which represents intellect and mind.

Here, Saraswati is sitting on a full-grown lotus symbolizing supreme reality and knowledge. She has four arms: two front arms show her activities in physical world- holds veena and plays it to stress creativity. Two back hands show her presence in spiritual world- right hand has a rosary that signifies meditation and concentration and left has the book of wisdom which is to be acquired and used with love and affection. She is beautifully crowned with a sun shaped halo at the back; body adorned with marvelous jewels highlighting her purity, feminity and grace. Her lotus throne has slight embellishments on the sides making its appearance more divine.

Her presence indicates that one should overcome fear, indecision and fickleness in order to acquire true knowledge and apply it effectively.
